when the 184,267,451st newspaper was circulated this year?
In the great Caltech tradition of large-scale pranks, a group of 80 Caltech undergraduates converted three blocks of the “Hollywood Walk of Fame” into a “Hollywood Walk of Scientists” in the early hours Wednesday morning (both sides of the street). They covered close to 600 stars with the names of famous scientists: my parents are both among the honorees.
One car of four freshmen was apprehended, but no vandalism charges were pressed. (The police apparently got into the spirit of the thing.) One of the students was 17, however, and has been charged with a curfew violation. His Mom came and rescued him (arriving with donuts for the
police and video-camera).
The prank was very well thought out–except for the minor detail of getting in trouble with the police–and they made sure their adhesive didn’t do any damage to the “real” stars.
Word has it that the students plan to invite the arresting officers to dinner, and they’re going to send flowers to the rescuing Mom.
Keep an eye out for more press…
It isn’t funny but it sure is neat to watch…
